Measuring Ringsize

Jewelers use a set of ring gauges to measure your ring size or obtain your ring size by measuring an existing ring using a ring stick.

However, there are ways to get an estimate which can be quite accurate. The easiest method to measure your ring size is to measure the internal diameter of a ring that fits you. This measurement (in millimeters) provides an almost exact ring size. Use our ring size chart to get your ring size if you have this measurement.

If a ring that fits well is not avaliable, you can also obtain the diameter of the widest part of your finger using another method. Place your finger on a flat table and place two straight edged thick books or boxes on either side so that they lie touching your finger. Gently remove your finger so as not to disturb the books. Now measure the distance between the books and you have the measurement of the widest part of your finger. Use our ring size chart to get your ring size if you have this measurement.

If it is not possible to get a proper measurement, a finger size may also be measured using a stiff piece of wire bent round the finger.

Please keep in mind that people have varying subjective preferences for the tightness of rings. Finger sizes also vary with the weather and may be two or more sizes larger in summer than in cold weather.
